We couldn’t let our youth programme in the City of Sails pass by without getting out on the water ourselves! We had the perfect weather out on the Waitemata Harbour for our youth sailing session.

Led by Brian Trubi from Blind Sailing New Zealand, and supported by Holly and Jack from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, participants took to the water to try their hand at sailing. For some, this was their first time. Sailing on “Blind Faith”, a boat that was used at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, participants had a go at steering the boat, and learned how to read the wind by listening to the sound of the sails.

Programme participants really enjoyed sailing under the Auckland Harbour Bridge, and finished the day off by visiting the famous America’s Cup at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.

After a fun session, everyone is super excited to get back out on the water soon!
