We were really excited to get our youth programme back up and running this weekend, after a couple of weekends off due to the change in COVID-19 alert levels.

This weekend, seven participants from all over Auckland met at Club Physical in Te Atatu South to have a go at jiu jitsu. The session was led by experienced athlete and coach Clinton Terry, who has won numerous national and international medals, and was supported by assistant coach Aurora. The participants who ranged from ages five to 12, got to learn lots of new jiu jitsu moves alongside Clinton, who is also known as the “Blind Grappler”.

Participants were put into pairs to practice their new jiu jitsu moves. Blind Sport NZ’s Education and Programmes Manager Casey says that her favourite part of the session was seeing the participants work together to learn the techniques taught to them by Clinton.

At the end of the session, participants got to put their new skills to the test, taking on the Blind Grappler himself.
